Manually Connect to a Wireless Network:

Click Add (as shown in above image) and choose one of three connection methods. We will focus on number one.
  1. Add a network that is in range of this computer
  2. Manually create a network profile
  3. Create an ad hoc network (peer-peer network)

Add a Network that is in Range of this Computer:

This selection shows a list of unsecured networks within the local area. Many network names, known as SSIDs, have security enabled. Connecting to such networks requires the user know the correct passphrase or preshared key. Configuring security is covered in another How To document.
  1. Select wireless-n and click Connect.

  2. Type in the security key or passphrase configured on your wireless access point (AP) or router.
  3. Click Connect.

牋?strong>Note: It is not recommended you select the 'Display characters' checkbox. Doing so will allow anyone around you to see the characters and compromise network security.

  4. A status window will appear and then 'Successfully connected to wireless-n' is displayed. Check the 'Save this network' box if you do not want to manually create this connection/profile every time you would like to access the network. You may also check 'Start this connection automatically' if you would like to attempt connection to this network automatically when using wireless. Click Close.

  5. Return to 'Manage wireless networks' window and you will now see wireless-n has been added.
